An ophthalmologist, associate professor of the Department of Eye Diseases of the National Medical and Surgical Center named after N.I. Pirogov Irina Leshchenko in an interview with radio Sputnik on Tuesday, January 26.

The specialist noted that the coronavirus contributes to the exacerbation of chronic diseases, and eye diseases, such as, for example, allergic conjunctivitis, are no exception.

“There is a disease of allergic conjunctivitis. He may have an exacerbation and remission when there are no symptoms. We noted that those who have already had allergic eye diseases, there are no manifestations at the time of the coronavirus, but in three weeks an exacerbation of allergic conjunctivitis may occur”, the ophthalmologist explained.

Leshchenko recommended that people with chronic eye diseases, for example, with glaucoma, who have had a coronavirus infection, must undergo a medical examination, check intraocular pressure and analyze other parameters so as not to miss symptoms of an exacerbation of the disease.
