Researchers from the city of Wuhan in China, where the new coronavirus began to spread in 2019, found that some children hospitalized with COVID-19 have eye symptoms, such as redness, suppuration, and discomfort, which cause them to rub their eyes with their hands. Symptoms manifested themselves in the early stages of the disease, in parallel with coughing and fever.

Scientists reviewed medical records of 219 children with COVID-19 hospitalized from January to March and found that 22.7% of young patients had the aforementioned ocular manifestations. Pain in the eyes, watery eyes, and swelling of the eyelids were rare. At the same time, all the symptoms were mild and in most cases did not require treatment.
