On January 28, 2022, with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, a meeting (via videoconference) was held between representatives of the Association of Ophthalmologists of Uzbekistan and a representative of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of Great Britain Dylan Costello.
The meeting discussed issues of bilateral cooperation of mutual interest, in particular:
- signing a cooperation agreement;
- creation in Uzbekistan of a regional center for training and certification of specialists in the field of ophthalmology (the certificate of this center will provide an opportunity for training, advanced training, internships and work in the UK);
- conducting joint research in the field of ophthalmology;
- study and implementation of best practices, technologies, and practices, as well as standards for the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases;
- improving the quality of medical education, exchanging experience, and improving the skills of specialists abroad by organizing training courses, internships, sending highly qualified specialists to Uzbekistan to assist in the development of the ophthalmology system in the country.
The parties reached an agreement on sending packages of relevant information and organizing subsequent meetings, as well as a visit of British specialists to Uzbekistan in order to enhance cooperation in the above areas.
